Why would I spend my time and money at Healing Perspectives?

Choosing to see a therapist is a difficult decision, often following weeks, months, years or even decades of struggle.  Once the decision is made, finding the right fit can also be a daunting task.  It is worth investing a bit of energy to find a therapist who is well trained and highly skilled in evidence based techniques, has a wealth of experience in the areas of your greatest concern, and is up to date on current best practices and research.  The therapist you choose should be knowledgable and comforting in a manner you find respectful, safe and meaningful.

So, why choose me?  Well, I am wholeheartedly committed to this powerful work.  I am direct, yet gentle and down to earth.  Some say I have a good sense of humor, but I am serious when it comes to your safety, the depth of your story, and the transformative power of emotional presence.  I am a creative problem solver and will strive to find sustainable solutions to whatever is troubling you. I call it as I see it.  I expect that you, the client, will be willing to work as hard and preferrably (for your best outcome), harder than I, to achieve your treatment goals.  Having been In practice since 1990, I am a Licensed Master's Social Worker (LMSW), Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC). In 2018, I completed Intensive Training in  Dialectical Behavior Therapy along with practicing and participating on a DBT Consultation Team for a period of 18 months. I hold advanced certifications in Family Therapy and Clinical Supervision. I love this work.  I am constantly in awe of the strength, courage, and resiliency of my clients.  I look forward to beginning this journey of discovery to your best self!!

Why do people go to therapy, anyway?

For the most part, I think it comes down to.....pain.  As a wise young woman reminded me recently, "Sometimes, it hurts to be human."  Often WHAT BRINGS SOMEONE TO A THERAPIST'S OFFICE is the experience of suffering or having ineffective coping strategies. WHAT KEEPS SOMEONE COMING BACK is the relief from suffering and the gaining of insight, acceptance, hope and effective skills that add joy, meaning and purpose towards a life well lived.  These are truly the building blocks you will use to fortify a solid foundation for both feeling better and doing better.

If you or someone you love is seeking counseling or resources/referrals to address addiction, relationship stress, parenting, trauma, special needs, aging, loss, mental health or personal growth, know that you are not alone.  My hope is for you to leave each session with a new set of Healing Perspectives and a solid sense of Time Well Spent.
